Our Emergency Department
Our Emergency Department (ED) is a five-bed unit that treats approximately 4,000 patients annually. We are currently pursuing Level IV Trauma Designation, reflecting our commitment to timely, high-quality emergency care.
The ED is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with on-site physician coverage and ACLS- and PALS-certified registered nurses. Our nursing staff maintains trauma readiness through ongoing education, including Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) preparation and certification.
Our multidisciplinary emergency care team—comprised of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals—provides comprehensive, patient-centered care, including:
- Rapid assessment and monitoring of patient conditions
- Triage and prioritization of care based on acuity
- Administration of medications and treatments
- Use of advanced medical equipment and technology
- Performance of emergency and stabilization procedures
- Patient and family education related to treatment, recovery, and follow-up care
Our Emergency Department staff are often the first point of contact for patients experiencing trauma, acute illness, allergic reactions, and other urgent medical conditions. The team works efficiently to assess, stabilize, and treat patients, while coordinating continued care, transfer, or admission as clinically indicated.
Stroke Program Associations & Capabilities
Our facility is associated with the McLaren Northern Michigan Stroke Network to ensure rapid access to interventional neurologists. Through an in-house, dedicated computer system, our team can obtain real-time consultation and imaging review, supporting timely, evidence-based stroke evaluation and treatment. These partnerships ensure patients receive the appropriate level of stroke care when it matters most.
Medical-Surgical & Emergency FAQs
Will my medical-surgical or emergency services require an inpatient stay?
Diagnostic, surgical, or therapeutic services may require patients to be admitted to our hospital. A hospital setting provides the monitoring, equipment, and around-the-clock staffing needed for these services.
Inpatient services are provided to patients needing medical or surgical care, typically requiring a stay greater than 24 hours. Similar to inpatient care, outpatient or observation care is provided to patients needing medical or surgical care that requires a less than 24-hour stay.
