Obstetrics FAQs

Can you care for patients with a prior C-section?

Yes. We can provide prenatal care through the third trimester. At that time, we will refer you to an OB-GYN in Marquette. If an emergency C-section is needed during labor, we will consult with the local on-call OB-GYN.

Do you provide post-partum care?

Yes. We provide postpartum care for up to 12 weeks after delivery. After that, we will refer you back to your primary care provider for ongoing care.

What should I do if I'm planning to become pregnant?

We recommend scheduling an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss your health, review any medications you are taking, and begin taking a daily prenatal vitamin.

How soon should I contact an obstetrician after getting a positive pregnancy test?

You should contact our obstetricians’ office as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test. They will typically schedule your first prenatal visit for when you are about 8 to 10 weeks pregnant. Early prenatal care is crucial for a healthy pregnancy.

What should I bring to my first obstetrics appointment?

For your first appointment, please bring:

  • Your photo ID
  • Insurance card
  • A list of any current medications or supplements you are taking
  • A list of questions you may have

It is also helpful to know the date of your last menstrual period.

Why is prenatal care important?

Prenatal care helps support your health throughout pregnancy and provides guidance to promote the best possible outcomes for both mother and baby.

Where will I have my ultrasound appointments?

As a patient, you can choose where to have your ultrasounds completed. Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and UP Health System Marquette both provide advanced ultrasound imaging technology to monitor your baby's development.
